Programs for Veterans & Members of the Armed Services with Permanent Disabilities
Move United has awarded Summit Adaptive Sports a grant toward programs for Veterans and Members of the Armed Services who have permanent disabilities as part of the VA Adaptive Sports Grant Program for 2024 - 2025. This programming is sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs and Move United.
Spring/Summer/Fall Programs
Our program offers adaptive sport coaching in kayaking, hiking, disc golf and mountain biking including using adaptive equipment such as hiking chairs, adaptive kayaks and paddles and adaptive e-assist mountain bikes if needed. Our focus is on skill development with the greatest extent of independence possible. Lesson times vary by sport, but generally approximately 2 hours.
-
Group Events - small groups either during the day or evening where veterans can enjoy camaraderie while still accessing one-on-one coaching. The current planned schedule includes once a week over 5 or 6 weeks.
-
Individual Lessons - if an individual lesson fits your schedule better we will offer up to 5 lessons a season.
Winter Programs
Our program offers adaptive sport coaching in skiing and snowboarding and can include using adaptive equipment including bi-ski, mono-ski, outriggers for 3 or 4 track, snow slider and snow bike if needed. If snow conditions allow, we will offer Nordic Skiing (x-country or telemark). Our focus is on skill development with the greatest extent of independence possible. Lessons are for 2 ½ hours which includes time to get rental equipment and breaks as needed.
